Alex and Molly standing in front of a brick wall smiling at each other

Alex & Molly

Cutout of Alex and Molly, used to create visual effect of title text passing underneath the couple (but still on top of the brick wall) as page scrolls.

Explore the Twin Cities

While you're here, be sure to check out some of our favorite places.

Coffee

SK Coffee

The best pour-over in the cities, and currently our favorite spot. SK shares a patio with Lake Monster Brewing, and there's almost always a food truck out front (schedule here).

[Update, 2025: Lake Monster stopped hosting food trucks in favor of selling their own mediocre pizza. We will never forgive them. SK still the best coffee in the city though.]

Wesley Andrews

The best all-around coffee shop. Great coffee of any style and a great atmosphere, but the location is a bit out of the way. Molly's favorite coffee shop of them all, serving up her city-wide favorite dirty chai.

Fairgrounds Coffee and Tea

The best cold brew in the cities — order the "Philtera" from the taps. Alex used to drink this so often that the baristas nicknamed him "Phil."

SEE ALSO: Spyhouse, Dogwood, FRGMNT.

Brunch

[Update, 2025: Definitely go try Diane's Place.

Colossal Cafe

Our favorite breakfast and brunch spot. Known for their excellent "flapper" pancakes, but everything we've had has been good.

French Meadow Bakery

Arguably better than Colossal on the non-pancake front, but the location is a bit less convenient.

Hen House Eatery

Good breakfast if you find yourself in downtown Minneapolis.

Chips and Salsa

Jefe Urban Cocina

Jefe's patio overlooks beautiful Main Street, right across from the Mississippi river. A very nice street for a stroll.

Centro

Great chips and salsa, solid tacos, and quick service. Walking distance of two excellent breweries (Bauhaus and Indeed), and two great coffee shops (Spyhouse and Dogwood).

Nico's Taco Bar

One of our favorite patios. Catch their daily happy hour from 2-5, and make sure to try the Zona Rosa in your salsa flight.

SEE ALSO: Barrio, Graze, Fuzzy's.

Lunch

Brasa Premium Rotisserie

A long-time favorite. Molly likes the roasted pork, Alex likes the smothered chicken. Brasa makes the best cornbread you'll ever eat.

Due Focacceria

An Italian eatery in Saint Paul, Due's sandwiches are serious business (and Alex is almost never impressed by a sandwich). We both like the Prosciutto best. Alex has a weakness for their tiramisu, and Molly enjoys their seasonal lemonades.

The Briar

Molly gets the NE Hill Turkey sandwich, Alex enjoys the Farro & Squash salad and the single-person cheese board. Above all else, don't leave without trying their Crescent City Ransom coffee drink.

SEE ALSO: Lu's Sandwiches, Sea Salt Eatery, Graze.

Breweries

Bauhaus Brew Labs

One of the best patios in Minneapolis and some of the best beers too (also some excellent N/A beers). The Animales food truck lives at Bauhaus, and serves some of the best BBQ in the city.

Headflyer Brewing

A quintessential brewery with a clean indoor space and some nice outdoor seating too. Probably the brewery Alex and Molly have spent the most time at. Foodtruck schedule here.

Dangerous Man Brewing Company

Order the best pizza in the city as takeout from next door and enjoy it over a beer in Dangerous Man's alley.

SEE ALSO: Lake Monster, Modist, Pryes, Fulton.

Dinner

Gai Noi

Delicious new Laotian restaurant with a fantastic rooftop deck. Highly recommended to order a variety and share amongst your party. Our favorites are the calamari, the red curry, and the egg & basil fried rice. Walk-in only.

Young Joni

The best pizza we've ever had. Our favorites are the Tavern Pie and the Margherita. Young Joni books out long in advance, so make reservations early or plan to enjoy their pizza from Dangerous Man (see above) or Back Bar (see below).

Spitz

Incredible mediterranean bowls. Lower-cost option for the area, but still delicious and with a very cool atmosphere.

SEE ALSO: Hyacinth, Boludo, Herbst, Red Cow, Juche.

Old Fashioneds

The Sonder Shaker

A bourbon/rye split old fashioned that doesn't miss, and their other drinks are great too. Sonder also serves the best brussels sprouts in town. Happy hour 4-6 daily, 10-12 weekends, and all day Sundays.

Gori Gori Peku

A sleek Japanese whiskey bar tucked away on the second floor of North Loop's Kado no Mise. Not a classic old fashioned but it hits all the right notes, and does so with more style than anywhere else.

Norseman Distillery

The best pure rye old fashioned we've found in the cities, and their in-house harvest whiskey variety holds its own as well. Don't make an extra trip though, because you'll be at Norseman for our wedding reception.

Speakeasies

Back Bar at Young Joni

One of our favorite spots in the cities. Young Joni's Back Bar — hidden behind a nondescript door in the restaurant's side alley — boasts an excellent selection of classic cocktails. The cherry on top: this walk-in speakeasy offers Young Joni's full pizza selection.

Elusive

A new speakeasy-esque bar by the acclaimed local bitters maker Dashfire, Elusive offers great cocktails inside a sleek lounge burried deep within a Northeast Minneapolis warehouse.

Billy After Dark

A unique experience in the basement of Billy Sushi, head down the alleyway to the back of the restaurant and look for the laser lights and "B.A.D." iconography to find your way in.

SEE ALSO: Stargazer, Public Domain, Skaalvenn Cocktail Lounge, Volstead's Emporium, Basement Bar at Sooki & Mimi.

Late Night

Little Tijuana

Our overall favorite spot in the cities. The best margarita in town, and the best cheeseburger too (fight us). Food until midnight.

Whitey's Old Town Saloon

Near and dear to our hearts. Known for their fresh-grapefruit greyhound cocktails, though you won't find them on the menu. Molly enjoys their G&T. Surprisingly good food, served until midnight. Nothing like a late-night pile of fries.

Parlour Bar

Also in competition for the best burger in town, and serves up some great cocktails too. Food until midnight.
